South Korea's political opposition, the People's Party, say the THAAD system should not be allowed in the country, as its intention is only to protect the US military's interests in the region. Opposition politicians said this to locals after visiting the airbase where the system will be installed.
"If THAAD is deployed in Seongju, it will close the door for unification of the South and the North. It will split the Korean peninsula forever. That's why we are against the THAAD system. I'm not opposing the deployment just for Seongju, but for generations to come of South Koreans," Jung Dong Yong with South Korea Opposition People's Party said.
